To reflect on the shaming and exposure practices at the heart of the surge in crises around cultural events in Europe and the region in recent years, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) in collaboration with EUME and the ICI Berlin has organized a two-day conference in Berlin under the title Cultures of Scandal. The conference was curated by Tarek El-Ariss (Dartmouth College / EUME Fellow 2012/13) and Rasha Salti. Cultures of Scandal offered an open platform for participants to reflect on the historical transformation of these shaming and exposure practices from the 19th century to the present examining how they have contributed to our understanding of the canon, the archive, cultural development and history.
