We are welcoming two authors: Ayman El-Desouky with his book The Intellectual and the People in Egyptian Literature and Culture (2014) and Ismail Nashif with a short lecture on “June-Childhood - How the defeat in 1967 reflected on children’s literature”. In addition we will screen a complimentary surprise movie from 1982 and end with a small party including snacks.

Ayman El-Desouky is Senior Lecturer in Modern Arabic and Comparative Literature and Founding Chair of the Centre for Cultural, Literary and Postcolonial Studies (CCLPS, 2009-2012) at SOAS, University of London, UK. He has lectured at the University of Texas at Austin (1993-1995), the Johns Hopkins University (1995-1996) and at Harvard University (1996-2002) before he moved to London. He is currently preparing a book-length study on Figuring the Sacred in the Modern Arabic Novel.

Esmail Nashif is associate professor of anthropology at the Sociology and Anthropology program of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. He is also an art critic and curator and has published several collections of short stories. His main research fields are materiality, language, ideology, plasticity, and aesthetics. One of his most important publications is Palestinian Political Prisoners: Identity and community (Routledge, 2008).
