Reading and Q&A by Nora Amin
Discussant: Murat Suner

In cooperation with Mayadin Al-Tahrir e.V. and the Werkstatt der Kulturen

Migrating the Feminine by Nora Amin is a fearless attempt to find an answer to what it means to be a woman in a society full of prejudice, contempt, anger and transgression against the female, in all ages, in all forms, from the way a young girl is treated to the violent and traumatic events of Tahrir.

Nora Amin's text is personal, passionate and political, her voice is strong in a time full of confusion, her vision is clear, her language as vibrant and as poetic as it can be. This is an important book not only for the Egyptian society, it is part of a larger discussion among writers, thinkers and feminists around the world.

The reading will be in English. German and Arabic translation will be provided.

Nora Amin is a writer, performer, choreographer and theatre director. She has authored and published an audio book with poems, four short stories and four novels. In 2000 she founded the Lamusica Independent Theatre Group in Cairo to be able to experiment with new forms of body expression and to tackle the silenced problems of women and their socio-cultural repression. She directed and produced 37 theatre, dance and musical productions before she moved to Berlin in 2015. Her work belongs to the fields of literature, theatre/dance and feminism. It is characterized by a combination of the artist’s socio-political activism and her role as a rebel against the traditions of patriarchy, authority, sexism and racism.
