Europe in the Middle East—the Middle East in Europe (EUME) is a multi-disciplinary research program at the Berlin-based Forum Transregionale Studien. EUME seeks to rethink key concepts and premises that link and divide Europe and the Middle East. Within the framework of five research fields in the disciplines of Literature, Political Philosophy, Urban History, Philology-cum-Late Antiquity, and Islamic Studies, the program attempts to recollect the legacies of Europe in the Middle East and of the Middle East in Europe in an inclusive way that aims to do justice to their entanglements. more...

MLA Prize for a First Book awarded to EUME Fellow Michael Allan

Congratulations to Michael Allan (EUME Fellow 2017 & 2018) who will be awarded the MLA Prize for a First Book for »In the Shadow of World Literature: Sites of Reading in Colonial Egypt« during the MLA's annual convention in New York on 6 January 2018. The committee's citation starts: "Michael Allan's In the Shadow of World Literature makes a momentous intervention into discussions about the global status of literary culture by way of modern Arabic writing and in doing so poses the big questions of our time about the nature and operation of literature."
