Kader Konuk (University of Michigan / Affiliated EUME Fellow 2012/13) awarded Renne Wellek Prize and DAAD Book Prize
The American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) has awarded the Rene Wellek Prize 2012 for best book in Comparative Literature to Kader Konuk's East-West Mimesis: Auerbach in Turkey (Stanford University Press 2010). Having already won the DAAD's Book Prize 2012 of the German Studies Association, East-West Mimesis has earned the premier prizes in both of her disciplines.
Sinan Antoon (EUME Fellow 2008/09) shortlisted for Arabic Booker Prize
Sinan Antoon’s third novel, Ya Maryam (Ave Maria) (Beirut/ Baghdad: Dar al-Jamal, 2012), was shortlisted for the 2013 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, otherwise known as the “Arabic Booker.”
EUME Fellow Hanan Toukan has been awarded the Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award
Hanan Toukan (EUME Fellow 2012/13 / SOAS London) has been awarded the Malcom H. Kerr Dissertation Award 2012 in Social Sciences for her PhD thesis (completed in 2011) on “Art, Aid, Affect: Locating the Political in Post-Civil War Lebanon's Contemporary Cultural Practices”. She received the award during the Annual Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Conference in Denver, Colorado.
