Die Leitidee des in Berlin angesiedelten Forschungsprogramms Europa im Nahen Osten – der Nahe Osten in Europa (EUME) ist die Erforschung der politischen, sozialen, religiösen und kulturellen Verflechtungen zwischen Europa und dem Nahen Osten in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Gegenüber einem Denken in Gegensätzen und Dichotomien sollen die vielfältigen Rezeptions- und Übersetzungsprozesse, gemeinsame historische Vermächtnisse, die Mobilität von Personen und Ideen ins Blickfeld treten. mehr...

Berliner Seminar Sommersemester 2018

Unter dem Oberthema »Popular Histories« werden EUME Fellows und andere Wissenschaftler*innen im Sommersemester 2018 populäre Narrative und alternative Geschichtsvarianten, Erinnerungs- und Archivpraktiken der Arbeiter, die den Asuan Staudamm - eine Ikone des postkolonialen Ägyptens - erbauten, die Interaktionen zwischen türkischen und deutschen Autoren in den sechziger Jahren oder die Verarbeitung und Darstellung von Krieg, Flucht und Vertreibung in arabischen Graphic Novels und Comics thematisieren.
