Europe in the Middle East—the Middle East in Europe
 (EUME) is a multi-disciplinary research program at the Berlin-based Forum Transregionale Studien. EUME seeks to rethink key concepts and premises that link and divide Europe and the Middle East. Within the framework of five research fields in the disciplines of Literature, Political Philosophy, Urban History, Philology-cum-Late Antiquity, and Islamic Studies, the program attempts to recollect the legacies of Europe in the Middle East and of the Middle East in Europe in an inclusive way that aims to do justice to their entanglements. Beyond Spring: Arab Film Series Part III

In 2010, the Tunisian protest movement triggered a wave of upheavals across the Middle East and North Africa that became known as "the Arab Spring". However, there is also a history to tell beyond "Spring" that may offer a more nuanced perspective on the present and future. Since 2014, the Werkstatt der Kulturen has been highlighting films from several Arab countries as part of the Arab Film Series, with this specific selection of films curated by Viola Shafik. It aims at exploring some major social and political issues in the region and will be accompanied by moderated panels with academic experts from the research program Europe in the Middle East — The Middle East in Europe (EUME). Berliner Seminar Summer Term 2016

The Berliner Seminar of the research program Europe in the Middle East—The Middle East in Europe (EUME) will continue on the theme “Culture, Society and Freedom” in the summer term 2016. Addressed will be issues such as “Visions for Democracy in Israel/Palestine”, “The Production of Law in the Field of Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Tunisia” or “Freedom of Belief and the Qur'an”.
