Semantics of Qur’anic Vocabulary in the First Four Centuries from Hijra

Abbasi's doctoral dissertation, "Abū Ishāq al-Tha''labī and his approach to the Qur'an and its exegesis", is concerned with the methodology, life and work of an early Muslim Scholar in Qur'anic exegesis.

His publications include numerous encyclopaedic entries in Dāneshnāme-ye Jahān-e Eslām (Encyclopaedia of the World of Islam), such as "Tafsīr", "Harrālī", "Hawāriyyūn", "Khalq-e Qur'ān", "Dāwūd" and "Dhū l-Qarnayn", as well as articles on Qur'anic exegesis such as "Tha'labī and His Commentary al-Kashf wa l-Bayān". Abbasi has also translated into Persian several articles by western scholars like Andrew Rippin, Claude Gilliot and Norman Calder, and has edited the Persian translation of Approaches to the Qur'ān (ed. G. Hawting and A.K. Shareef, London 1993), published in Tehran (2010). He is currently writing a book based on his dissertation, translating some articles of the Encyclopaedia of the Qur'ān (EQ), and editing the Persian translation of the same book.

As a EUME-fellow in Berlin, Abbasi will research on the semantics of Qur'anic vocabulary in the first four centuries (hijri) in the light of Qur'ānic lexicons until Rāghib Isfahānī (d. ca 425 AH).
